Our first stop was Progresso, Mexico. We were met by Mexican dancers who welcomed us as we left the ship, We had signed up for a trip to the Mayan ruins. Our tour directors were excellent. Victor, aged 73, is of Mayan descent and has worked as a docent for several decades. The original ruins displayed engraved statues and some of the original buildings. Gini and I climbed to the top of the shrine while Terri played photographer. There were lots of steps, part of the original belief that the higher you climbed the higher you were to the gods.
